HI, I'M DYLAN

I am a Art Director and Set Designer working across editorial and commercial projects with a focus on immersive and visually driven stories. My career has taken me up and down the East Coast from Savannah and Charleston to Brooklyn, before I returned to my roots in North Carolina, where I am currently based.

What were my early inspirations?

As a southern kid, I found escape by wandering the woods around my grandparents’ home and getting lost behind a screen. I was drawn to strange, atmospheric worlds: The Dark Crystal, The Twilight Zone, and especially Jurassic Park. That film, in particular, left a lasting impression, fusing my fascination with both fantasy and the natural world in a way that continues to inspire my approach to design.

These curiosities led me to a science focused program at the North Carolina Zoo where I aspired to pursue an education in conservation biology with the goal of designing zoos and aquariums. As the reality of that dream began to set in, I shifted my focus towards art, leading me to my studies at SCAD. Subsequently, I moved to New York City where I began designing and fabricating sets for editorial and fashion clients, including Vogue, GQ, Harper's BAZAAR, Saks, and others.

I returned to North Carolina in 2016, to focus on large scale productions with Fortune 500 companies, including Wrangler, Lowe's Home Improvement, Ulta, Southern Tide and others. This shift to more accessible brands strengthened my skill of fusing art with commerce and pushed me to expand my technical skill set while refining a core strength: amplifying a project’s voice and translating it into something cohesive.

What inspires me today?

A deep-seated appreciation for imperfect details, finding sublime beauty in unlikely places, natural forms in flora and fauna and the history of concept design in film. All of these interests intersect to form a lens through which I view and respond to the world, design large-scale set builds and adapt existing locations. I believe my career is a reflection of who I am, rather than the other way around.

What's next for me?

I’m focused on partnering with brands that have high-level creative needs, building new relationships with directors, producers, and creative teams who value thoughtful, visually driven work, and pursuing my long term dream of working on films. What once felt like a lofty dream now feels like a natural next step and one I’m ready to take.

If this resonates, I’d love to connect.
